| GO HOME ! ! ! |
As a traveler, the most important thing you can do to preserve your "tax home" under the law, is to "go home" on a regular basis, to live and work, or at least to look for work. This "tax home" status allows you to take tax-free per diems, and to deduct temporary living expenses. In addition, if your "tax home" is in a tax state, you'll have state tax withheld to help offset your home state tax liability.

Tax Home |
The largest deduction for most travelers is "temporary living expenses" while away from their "tax home". Without a tax home, you are an "itenerant worker" for tax purposes, and cannot deduct temporary living expenses.
